The 2018 NBA Playoffs will reach a critical juncture on Monday night, as there is a chance that the two most likely participants in the upcoming Eastern Conference Finals officially secure their spots with a victory today. The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers are on the precipice of renewing their playoff rivalry with a rematch of last year’s ECF showdown. These clubs have a chance to sweep in their respective Game 4s tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors, although both aren’t favored to do so.

The Celtics are up 3-0 in their series despite having been made the underdog for all three of those contests against the Sixers. Oddsmakers have once again installed Philly as a favorite, this time laying six points as they try to stave off elimination in front of the home fans in Game 4. The Sixers failed to cover as 9.5-point chalk on Saturday, outright losing 101-98 in overtime after Boston’s Al Horford converted a critical layup in the final seconds of the extra period. It’ll be interesting to see if the C’s can pull off the sweep on the road, or if the 76ers can finally show some resolve and close out a game against their Atlantic Division rival. Regardless of what happens, Boston has to feel good about its chances to advance to the conference finals. Teams that are up 3-0 in a series have gone on to win it 129 out of 129 times in NBA postseason history and have yet to blow that commanding lead.

Cleveland wasn’t getting much respect at the start of its Easter Conference Semifinal showdown with Toronto, but the Cavs were able to flip the early perception that the Raptors were the better squad rather quickly. After back-to-back straight-up wins as an underdog in the North, Cleveland returned home and was finally favored in Game 3. The Cavaliers failed to cover the 4.5-point spread, but still came up with a backbreaking 105-103 victory over their opponent on Saturday evening capped off by an incredible buzzer-beater from LeBron James. Cleveland is now 5.5-point chalk for Game 4, where the club will try to finish off Toronto and advance to the conference finals for the fourth straight year.

Pelicans vs WarriorsCity will be presented with the Premier League trophy following Sunday’s game with the Terriers at the Etihad Stadium – live on Sky Sports.

Huddersfield are still chasing points to be certain of guaranteeing top-flight football next season and Guardiola has warned his players they must retain their focus if they are to avoid defeat to David Wagner’s side.

“We played in the FA Cup last season against Huddersfield and it was so tough, and we know how complicated it was to beat them at Huddersfield this season, in the last minutes,” he said.

Pep Guardiola paid tribute to Yaya Toure after confirming the midfielder will leave the club at the end of the season.

“Of course they are in a situation where they need points and they have three tough games but I admire their manager. Wagner has done amazing job last season and this season.

“It is a football game so they are going to try. They will have focused all week to play against us.

“Hopefully we can maintain the level of the last two games when we were already champions. I’m pretty sure that is going to happen.

“We want to win to celebrate with our fans. It is better to celebrate when you have won a few minutes before [the end], so that’s what we’ll try to do.”

David Wagner believes Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world – but hopes it rains on his parade this weekend.

Guardiola’s champions Manchester City will be presented with the Premier League trophy after Sunday’s home game against Wagner’s Huddersfield.

The Terriers are desperate for points in their bid to avoid an instant return to the Sky Bet Championship and will bid to spoil City’s party.

‘The chances are probably not the highest, but if there is one football club who knows anything is possible then it is us,’ Wagner said.

Justify

The favourite for the Kentucky Derby, according to OddsShark, is Justify, thanks to a trio of wins in three career starts. Jockey Mike Smith might have only won the Kentucky Derby once, back in 2005, but he has a superb chance following impressive victories since February.

Winning by nine-and-a-half lengths on his debut race at Santa Anita Park on February 18, Justify went on to win his next two, including a difficult test in the Santa Anita Derby. The son of Scat Daddy and product of trainer Bob Baffert, there is plenty of hype building around this horse.

“He did his thing,” Baffert told reporters after the Santa Anita Derby, per Blood-Horse. “He’s a superior racehorse. He does things easy.”

Mendelssohn

The second favourite was bought for $3 million at the 2016 Keeneland September yearling sale, the highest fee among the 20 horses racing in Louisville, and it easy to see why. Mendelssohn, the half-brother of champion racer Beholder, won the UAE Derby on March 31 by a phenomenal 18-and-a-half lengths.

Mendelssohn was also victorious in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar last November, while his jockey Ryan Moore was Champion Jockey in Great Britain in 2006, 2008 and 2009. All those credentials together make for an exciting horse and a worthy challenger.

Audible

Ridden by four-time Eclipse Award winner Javier Castellano, Audible wasn’t expected to do much until a surge of positive results in 2018 that culminated in four consecutive, and emphatic, wins changed all that. Most notably, Audible won two of the three Gulfstream Park’s prep races, ensuring the horse’s place as the third favourite, according to OddsShark.

2018 KENTUCKY DERBY LiVE

2018KENTUCKYDERBYLIVE Churchill Downs has opened its doors again for the 2018 Kentucky Derby on Saturday, when a field of 20 will look to take victory in the first of three Triple Crown legs.

The 144th edition of the Derby sees Bob Baffert-trained Justify enter as the favourite, per OddsShark, but Magnum Moon is lurking as one of four contenders trained by two-time winner Todd Pletcher.

Two of the top trainers in the United States are again poised for a grand head-to-head, with Pletcher—who won with Always Dreaming in 2017—hoping to become the first trainer to clinch successive wins since Baffert in 1997-98.

Although the Louisville race’s post time is scheduled for 6:34 p.m. ET, the race isn’t set to get underway until 6:46 p.m. ET, per Kenan Goyette of Sporting News.

Justify hopes to end Baffert’s three-year wait on a victory in this race, having won the most recent of his four crowns with American Pharoah in 2015.

Pharoah would later go on to clinch that year’s Triple Crown, but to stand a shot of doing that, leading favourites Magnum Moon and Justify would need to break the 135-year-old Apollo’s Curse, via the Kentucky Derby Twitter account.

Not since 1882, when Apollo was the victor, has a horse won the Run for the Roses after not making a start as a two-year-old.

What’s more, there’s a sibling rivalry in the field after equestrian editor Claudia Lorena said Justify has a family connection with Mendelssohn, one of two qualifiers from the inaugural European Road to the Kentucky Derby.

The dominance of Justify and Magnum Moon in the buildup to this race, however, means a horse like Audible could offer better value as a winning pick at Churchill Downs.

The second-most fancied of Pletcher’s quartet of entrants was third in his debut and has won his four races since then, including a triumph in his Grade 1 debut at the Florida Derby at the end of March.

That was also Audible’s first race at a mile-and-an-eighth, requiring just that extra test in stamina to prove he can do it over the Derby’s mile-and-a-quarter.

Keith Desormeaux, who trains distant underdog My Boy Jack, called this field “exceptional” and added it could restrict the top group of challengers down to “three or four standouts,” per Ed McNamara of Newsday.

The neutrals can only hope that means a more open and exciting race on Saturday, where Apollo’s Curse stands between the favourites and a leading leap in the hunt for this year’s Triple Crown.

The 144th Run for the Roses is finally here. The Kentucky Derby is just a few hours away and all 20 horses are in the paddock getting ready for the biggest event in all of horse racing. And it all goes down at Churchill Downs on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. Justify has been the betting favorite all week with wins in his only three races, including the Santa Anita Derby in April.

United will have to make do without Belgian hitman Romelu Lukaku, who picked up an injury in the win over Arsenal last weekend; the 27-goal hitman is now in a race against time to be fit for the FA Cup final against Chelsea later this month.

His absence is likely to see either Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial start as centre forward.

Chris Hughton’s Seagulls have proven themselves a tough nut to crack this term and currently sit 14th, five points clear of the drop zone.

They are however limping over the finish line, having not won in six, since their 2-1 win over Arsenal on March 4th.

United head into the clash as favorites and you can follow all the build up and action, right here.
